An ideal candidate would be willing to be cross-trained in retail and work the extent of the summer season.

Shuttle Driver/ Paddling Guide 

Come spend the summer on the rivers with Umiak Outdoor Outfitters! We are looking for hardworking individuals who have a passion for boating and people. This position is ideal for someone with experience in canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Umiak runs 7 days a week on multiple rivers all summer long. Training starts beginning of May and the season runs through September. We are looking for a season-long commitment. Trailer experience is not necessary but helpful!   

 Job Responsibilities:  

Shuttle Driver   

  • Shuttle clients with bus and trailer to drop off and pick-up locations   

  • Load/unload trailers of boats safely and efficiently   

  • Teach clients how to read rivers, boater safety, and use of equipment   

  • Organize and maintain equipment  

  • Communicate with management   

  • Maintain safety by following procedures and outlining days for clients  

Guided Tours/Instructor    

  • Instruct customers about proper boating techniques, river safety, and skills

Winter/Spring Outdoor Program Management Internship, Stowe, VT. 

Umiak Outfitters of Stowe Vermont has an opening for outdoor recreation students, looking to expand their knowledge and experience in outdoor programming and leadership. Umiak Outfitters has been a leader in Vermont for over 20 years, providing day and night time tours to thousands of clients each year. Umiak is a leading adventure provider for Hiking, Snowshoeing, Backcountry Skiing, Dog Sledding and more. Guide groups of 4-14 on 30 min to 4-hour day and nighttime Snowshoe, Extreme Sledding, X-Country/ Backcountry Skiing, and Boarding, and Dog Sledding adventures. 

  • Develop programming skills, trip planning, and equipment maintenance, trail building and maintenance, food preparation, emergency protocol, and more. 

  • Assist in Special Event Programs: Snowshoe, Extreme Sled, and Ski Demo's 

  • Develop sales skills: Participate in in-store clinics as well as on floor selling of trips and retail products. 

  • Learn valuable marking tools: writing press releases, brochure, and poster advertising, resort ambassador sales. 

  • Plan and facilitate special custom programs. 

  • Learn the reservation process and systems. 

  • Help transition outfitter from winter to summer programming. 

  • Assist in the development of new paddling programs.
