Umiak Outdoor Outfitters is looking to expand our booming program department to our seasonal store in Richmond. We are looking for a hardworking and detail-oriented person for this full-time seasonal position.  This fast-paced position would oversee and run our expanded river programming and summer boat rentals. An ideal candidate would be willing to be cross trained in retail and work the extent of the summer season.   
 

Job Responsibilities:  

  • Over see our expanding programming.   

  • Use a point-of-sale system to make reservations.   

  • Run tubing shuttles on the Winooski River.   

  • Maintain company vehicles.     

  • Rent boats and educate/aid customers on proper use and transportation.

Umiak is seeking a hardworking and unique individual to be a part of our rapidly growing program department. This full-time seasonal job will keep you busy all summer. This position entails being as knowledgeable with a computer/phone as it does with a boat and a paddle. This position demands teamwork, customer service skills, and a willingness to learn.   

 Job Responsibilities:  

  • Serves visitors by greeting, welcoming, and directing them appropriately.  

  • Making rental and program reservations on a point-of-sale system.   

  • Educate customers about the surrounding area, boating equipment, and Umiak programs.   

  • Transferring calls to the appropriate departments.

Shuttle Driver/ Paddling Guide 

Come spend the summer on the rivers with Umiak Outdoor Outfitters! We are looking for hardworking individuals who have a passion for boating and people. This position is ideal for someone with experience in canoeing, kayaking, and stand-up paddle boarding. Umiak runs 7 days a week on multiple rivers all summer long. Training starts beginning of May and season runs through September. We are looking for a season long commitment. Trailer experience is not necessary but helpful!   

 Job Responsibilities:  

Shuttle Driver   

  • Shuttle clients with bus and trailer to drop off and pick-up locations.   

  • Load/unload trailers of boats safely and efficiently.   

  • Teach clients how to read rivers, boater safety, and use of equipment.   

  • Organize and maintain equipment.   

  • Communicate with management.    

  • Maintain safety by following procedures and outlining days for clients.   

Guided Tours/Instructor    

  • Instruct customers about proper boating techniques, river safety, and skills.   

  • Help clients navigate rivers, rapids, and obstructions.   

  • Uphold safety on river and make judgement calls as needed.   

  • Educate clients of surrounding area.

The ideal candidate possesses PSIA or AASI Nordic Certification. 

 

Backcountry Ski Guides
Umiak is taking applications for part-time seasonal Alpine Touring (AT) and Telemark Ski Guides. Ideal candidates have expert skiing techniques, with prior teaching experience, knowledge of Stowe area backcountry required. Current Certifications in First Aid and CPR are required. Backcountry Ski guides must be able to ski several miles (up and down mountains) while carrying a heavy guide pack.
