OVERVIEW
River Paddlesports Leader Certification & Smart Start for Safe Paddling Certification
Those participating in the River Leader course will be equipped to lead on flatwater to mild whitewater conditions. Leaders candidates paddling river canoes, kayaks, and SUPs will focus on the competencies necessary to lead day trips and perform essential swifwater rescue in class I-II waters. Dive into a dynamic learning experience that covers on-the-water management techniques, decision-making, communication, planning, risk management, and rescue solutions - all while having fun and exploring a range of natural environments.
This certification also includes the Smart Start for Safe Paddling Certification, which teaches basic safety and paddling knowledge, as well as simple rescue skills for canoe, kayak, and SUP.
What is the ACA?
Founded in 1880, the American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting paddlesports through education and stewardship. They provide certification programs for those interested in teaching canoeing, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding in various water conditions. The ACA is widely acknowledged as the governing body for paddling activities in the United States and over 30 other countries.
Why should I take this course?
This certification will add credibility to yourself as a source of paddlesports safety information, as well as provide official documentation of your skills and experience for your employer, insurance carrier, or resume. In order to receive official credentialing documentation of this certification, you must be an ACA member.
