OVERVIEW
Community Paddlesports Leader Certification & Smart Start for Safe Paddling Certification
Those participating in the Community Paddlesports Leader Certification will be equipped with the trip planning and leadership skills to provide safe and enjoyable day trips with a variety of watercraft in environments suitable for beginners and novice paddlers. The certification is an entry point for new leaders who have minimal experience with paddling and need support with foundational paddling basics. Leader candidates will focus on developing the competencies necessary to lead a variety of paddlecraft in flat water environments.
This certification also includes the Smart Start for Safe Paddling Certification, which teaches basic safety and paddling knowledge, as well as simple rescue skills for canoe, kayak, and SUP.
What is the ACA?
Founded in 1880, the American Canoe Association (ACA) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting paddlesports through education and stewardship. They provide certification programs for those interested in teaching canoeing, kayaking, and standup paddleboarding in various water conditions. The ACA is widely acknowledged as the governing body for paddling activities in the United States and over 30 other countries.
Why should I take this course?
This certification will add credibility to yourself as a source of paddlesports safety information, as well as provide official documentation of your skills and experience for your employer, insurance carrier, or resume.
