Waterbury Reservoir
Lake Outpost Boat Rentals

Enjoy the beautiful views while paddling around the Waterbury Reservoir inside of the Waterbury Center State Park in Vermont. Umiak provides all the essentials to get out on the water. Lifejackets (PFDs) and Paddles are included in the price of boat rental! No reservations are accepted for rentals. We have lots of boats available. Due to COVID, we are not accepting cash.

Waterbury Reservoir has many users. It's all of our responsibility to be respectful of each other, the reservoir, and the wildlife. If we work together, we can preserve this beautiful resource for many years to come.

There are two year-round 5 mph/ No Wake Zones, which, with the protection by the 200 foot law and right-of-way laws, provide areas for quiet users. Please try to stay in these quiet use zones. Be mindful of motorized boat users, especially when not in quiet user zones, around boat ramps, and Elephant Rock.

Elephant Rock is a popular area for all users but the landscape becomes very narrow at this part of the reservoir. This means the channel for motorized boats is reduced significantly. Please use extreme caution while passing through this area.

My wife and I rented kayaks at the Waterbury Reservoir outpost today. It was a beautiful day and there were a lot more people out than I expected for a weekday. The guy working the rental booth was kept very busy, but he was friendly and gave us some refresher instructions and tips. The gear was in great shape and the kayaks were stable and easy to maneuver. Our time on the water was incredible. We saw loons and a bear! The bear stood on the shore not more than 25 feet from where we were just floating along. It got into the water and swam across to the other side while we sat there in the kayaks just in awe of the amazing encounter. When we returned the boats, it was still very busy at the rental booth, but again the guy working was great helping us out of the boats and asking our paddle was. When we told him about the bear, I think he was a little jealous of our adventure. I wholeheartedly recommend Umiak for all your adventure needs and will visit them myself to purchase a kayak next Spring- top notch service and gear.
